Missoula Symphony Orchestra for Montana Magazine :: Montana Editorial & Commercial Photographer

At the end of last year I spent some time writing and photographing a story about the Missoula Symphony Orchestra’s 60th anniversary for Montana Magazine.  How could you not enjoy an assignment that sends you to music rehearsal and backstage during a performance?  It’s definitely been a challenge writing and photographing stories simultaneously this past year.  I tried to separate my time so that I was focused on one thing at a time for this assignment.  Inevitably you miss things when you do that but I find I do a better job when I approach things this way.  I hate missing photos but what can you do?

I spent time with both Darko the conductor and John the Executive Director interviewing and photographing them in addition to photographing a performance.  One of the coolest things was as I interviewed members of the community I asked them their favorite performance from the symphony.  Over and over people told me it was a concert with Allen Vizzutti and the symphony several years ago.  Allen is my husband Lido’s uncle and a professional trumpet player, but I know him best as someone who shares the same silly sense of humor as me.  It was fun to hear how many people enjoyed that performance.  Sometimes I forget how small a place Missoula can be.  Then it reminds me really quickly.

How do you know if a Rolex is a replica?

Rolex watches are a symbol of luxury and prestige. They are often associated with success and wealth, making them highly sought after by watch enthusiasts and collectors. However, with the popularity of Rolex comes the prevalence of replicas or counterfeit Rolex watches. How can you tell if the Rolex you’re considering is a genuine timepiece or a replica? In this article, we’ll delve into several key indicators that can help you distinguish between an authentic Rolex and a fake one.

The Prestige of Rolex
Rolex is a brand renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Their reputation has been built over decades, and they are known for producing watches of unparalleled quality. Before we explore the telltale signs of a replica Rolex, it’s crucial to understand the prestige and excellence that come with owning a genuine Rolex.

The Price Tag
One of the first indicators of a replica Rolex is the price. Authentic Rolex watches are notoriously expensive. If you come across a deal that seems too good to be true, it probably is. Always purchase from reputable sources or authorized dealers to ensure you’re getting the real deal.

Weight and Material
Genuine Rolex watches are made from high-quality materials, including stainless steel, gold, and platinum. They are known for their weight and durability. Counterfeit Rolex watches often use cheaper materials, resulting in a noticeable difference in weight and feel.

Movement Mechanism
The movement mechanism in a Rolex is a work of art. The precision and smoothness of the movement are unparalleled. Replica watches typically lack this level of craftsmanship, resulting in a noticeable difference in the movement of the watch.

Cyclops Lens
The date window on a Rolex features a Cyclops lens that magnifies the date. Authentic Rolex watches have a magnification of 2.5x, while replicas may have a different magnification or none at all.

Engraved Rehaut
Rolex watches have a finely engraved rehaut, or the space between the dial and the crystal. Replicas often have poorly executed engravings or lack them entirely.

Serial and Model Numbers
Every Rolex watch has a unique serial and model number. Counterfeit watches may have incorrect or duplicated numbers. Verify these numbers with Rolex’s official database to confirm authenticity.

Logo and Spelling
Pay attention to the Rolex logo and the spelling of the brand name. Replicas may have subtle differences in the font, spacing, or crown logo.

Holograms and Rehaut
Rolex uses holograms on the crystal to prevent counterfeiting. The hologram should display the Rolex crown, and the rehaut should have micro-etched Rolex logos. Counterfeit watches may have poorly replicated holograms or lack them entirely.

  1. These are great photos! I remember some of those people when I played in the MSO as an undergraduate Music Major. However, I’m sorry–I’m not “getting” the seating arrangement of the string section. It has been scientifically proven that all humans “tend” to hear bass frequencies with their right ears and treble with their left. And Haydn knew this how many centuries ago? That’s why his original seating design put the celli and basses on the right of the conductor, and the violins on the left. Would you seat a string quartet this way? Having played in a professional quartet for several years, I don’t know of one. The MSO now has the 2nd violins on the right of the conductor. This seating works if you’re performing a Strauss tonepoem where there’s lots of “stereophonic/antiphonal” writing between the 1st & 2nd fiddles and also for Bruckner, if you want all of those bright (and endless) string tremolos to have a little extra sparkle. But, how often does the MSO perform Strauss and Bruckner? I know the cello section of the orchestra is not happy about this–understandably, because in “divisi” sections (where the celli divide into 2 or 3 parts) the players who would normally play the upper part are now buried further into the orchestra. They need to re-think this. Just my 2 cents for an otherwise wonderful ensemble! –Dr. Michael Twomey, Cantabile School of Music, St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, TX

Thank you Michael for your insight and kind comments. I think you might overestimate my clout with how the symphony lays out their seating :) Thank you for reading my blog! Hope all is wonderful in Texas.
